So, let’s suppose that it’s just a normal raining evening and you’re, as always, coding in Python. Then sundelly in the middle fo your code you need to accumulate some strings, what would you do? Simply accumulate using the +=, wright? Yeah, me too, until today! I’ve just found out (through PythonMeme.com) about a python’s string accumulation “flaw” that made me change my way to write strings accumulation…
I’m talking about this post by Xah Lee where he briefly discuss about on point in the Google’s Python Style Guide. After reading I’ve decided to make some tests to prove this point of view. By the way, I was tho only one how didn’t know about this style guide?

Um Pouco Sobre a PyCon2012

Neste último Domingo (dia 11 de Março de 2012) foi o último dia de palestras da PyCon2012. Esta PyCon, que está ocorrendo em Santa Clara, Califórnia, terá a duração de 9 dias — de 07 de Março a 15 de Março — e está sendo (em minha opinião) uma das PyCons mais bem organizadas. Como todas as outras edições do evento, houveram diversas palestras incríveis, Tutoriais magníficos, sprints fenomenais, mas esta PyCon teve algumas novidades a mais!

In continuation to the series of articles PyCon2011 Highlights, today I won’t just suggest but insist with you to watch this great talk by Maciej Fijałkowski and Alex Gaynor, about the Python’s Virtual Machine called PyPy. I always wondered how PyPy (which is written in Python) can be faster than CPython (which is written in C). This talk not only clarified this question of mine but made me very curious about the subject, which resulted in a little research to better understand PyPy and JIT.
For those who were lost during the lecture, here’s a brief explanation on how PyPy and JIT work.

Dando prosseguimento à série de artigos Destaques da PyCon2011, hoje não só sugiro sugiro mas insisto que assistam a palestra ministrada por Maciej Fijałkowski e Alex Gaynor sobre a máquina virtual para o Python chamado PyPy. Eu sempre me perguntei como o PyPy (que é escrito em Python) pode ser mais rápido que o CPython (que é escrito em C). Esta palestra não só sanou minha dúvida como também me deixou muito curioso e me fez realizar algumas pesquisas sobre o próprio PyPy e o JIT.

Webminar Sobre Python e Arduino

No dia 06 de Setembro o grande Alvaro Justen (Turicas) ministrou outro webminar no Lab de Garagem. Dessa vez o assunto foi Python e Arduino usando a biblioteca PySerial, para comunicação via USB, e a biblioteca PyBluez, para comunicação via bluetooth. Many times, during our day-to-day as a programmer, we face with the need to analyze, search and return values into a string. There are two ways to proceed with this, you write the string anlysis manually or use a regular expressions, also called: RegEx
Regular Expressions
Regular expressions are a chain of character with it’s own meaning, generally used to search for patterns of text. They have many applications, but are generally used to extract informations from a text or to ensure that a group of predefined characters are present in a text. My goal in this article is not explain regular expressions, but to show its usefulness. So here we go …

Retaking the Daniel G. Siegel’s video tutorials about PyGi. Last month the author posted the 6th video tutorial, named Creating A Slinky Web Browser.
I was waiting this sixth video in order to post along with the fifth video, Creating A Snazzy Video Player. Apparently the series is a little “dead”, since the last update dates from July 21.

Retomando a série de tutoriais em vídeo sobre PyGI por Daniel G. Siegel. No mês passado, o autor postou o sexto tutorial em vídeo, chamado Criando Um Navegador Web Descolado.
Eu estava esperando este sexto vídeo para postar junto com o quinto vídeo, Criando Um Vídeo Player Estiloso. Aparentemente, a série está um pouco “morta”, a última atualização data de 21 de Julho.
